While the religious implications of UFO phenomena are considered to be questionable to many scientists, many people who are attracted to UFO research believe nonhuman life forms are here for the purpose of assisting in the planet's evolutionary growth toward God. In his book, Alien Agenda, Jim Marrs (an award winning journalist and New York Times best-selling author) includes a chapter titled "A Metaphysical Exam" that includes mysticism. Referring to a clash of mindsets he states, "while individual belief and faith are matters far beyond the scope of this work, it is instructive to note the various positions advanced by the voices of those speaking for religion."
